Day 1 USA-San Jose
Arrive in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica set in the heart of the Meseta Central. You will be met and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 2 San Jose-Arenal | Meals: BLD
After breakfast, our drive takes us to the northern lowlands of Costa Rica. First up is a stop in the artisan town of Sarchi, where you will have time to browse through the shops. Among the handicrafts you will find is the iconic colorful oxcart. We continue to La Fortuna, arriving in time for lunch. This afternoon, we visit the world famous Tabacon Hot Springs. The springs are a result of the rainwater heated by magma in the Earth's interior, which, once heated, rise to the earth's surface along with the minerals found in the earth's crust, resulting in the mineral springs thought to have many benefits for the body. Enjoy dinner before returning to your hotel.
Day 3 Arenal | Meals: B
The day is at leisure to enjoy the many activities available. Arenal Volcano towers at 5,389 feet and is almost a perfect cone. It remains active today and almost a day doesn't pass without some type of minor eruption. You might want to take the Sky Tram and Sky Trek at Arenal. The tour makes the ascent to the top of the mountain by aerial tram, which the descent is by canopy tour, which is a fun way to move from one mountain to another. You might also like to visit Cano Negro, one of Costa Rica's 2 inland wetland areas with a vast lake in the heart of its 24,000 acre wildlife sanctuary.
Day 4 Arenal-Monteverde | Meals: B
Your journey to Monteverde takes you across Arenal Lake, the largest and most important lake in Costa Rica. You'll ascend through the Tilaran Mountain Range and finish your journey on a gravel road, with stunning scenery on either side, arriving in Monteverde early this afternoon.
Later, visit Selvatura Park, set in the midst of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. You'll take the Tree Top Walkways on a fascinating 1.9 mile walk thorugh the Monteverde Cloud Forest. A series of eight bridges (some as short as 150 feet to as long as 510 feet) and altitudes of 36 feet up to 180 feet take you on a mesmerizing walk through the top of the Cloud Forest. The walk takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and will provide a wonderful perspective of the forest. You can also check out the 50 species of butterflies in the Butterfly Garden -- as well as the 15 species of hummingbirds in the Hummingbird Garden.
Day 5 Monteverde | Meals: B
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve which covers more than 26,000 acres of forest and is home to more than 2,000 species of plants, 400 species of birds and 100 mammal species. Perhaps the most famous resident of the Cloud Forest is the spectacular quetzal. The male quetzal's tail feathers can reach more than 2 feet! This morning, visit the suspended bridges to observe the Cloud Forest. The afternoon is free to explore on your own.
Day 6 Monteverde-Manuel Antonio | Meals: B
Today's shuttle transfer takes about 4 hours as you drive to Manuel Antonio -- one of the most beautiful Central Pacific beaches. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 7 Manuel Antonio | Meals: B
At just over 1600 acres, Manuel Antonio National Park is quite small but teeming with wildlife. This morning, enjoy a half day tourin the park. As you walk through the park, you'll be accompanied by the constant chatter of the capuchin moneys. Look out for sloths, iguanas up in the trees, along with toucans and parrots. Don't be surprised if a coati scampers in front of your path. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 8 Manuel Antonio | Meals: B
The day is at leisure to enjoy the hotel and the beach. There are many optional activities available - for example, you might enjoy kayaking, fishing or snorkeling.
Day 9 Manuel Antonio-Depart | Meals: B
You will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight home today.
